About Paints

Marabu for Porcelain and Ceramics.

Marabu-Ceramica - 15ml and 50ml pots.

High-gloss, water based porcelain and ceramic paint for school, hobby, leisure-time and arts and crafts. Ready-to-use Marabu-Ceramica is very durable and, after oven-baking (30 minutes at 170 °C), weatherproof, water-proof and even dishwasher-safe. The porcelain and ceramic paint has good lightfastness and paintability; it is ideal for all porcelain painting techniques and excellently suitable for painting on porcelain, ceramic, terracotta, earthenware, pre-fired ceramic, metal, and glass.

Working Guidelines

  1. Preparation - before painting, clean the object thoroughly, (e.g. alcohol-based spirit) making sure the surface to be painted is clean and grease free. New objects should be washed with hot water and detergent first.
  2. Application - Now the desired colours can be applied with a soft hair paintbrush in glaze or opaque finish. Allow an air-drying time of at least 4 hours, before baking.
  3. To bake the paint, put the painted object into a cold oven set for 170 °C. When this temperature is reached, bake for 30 minutes and allow the item to cool down in the closed oven.
Now it can even be washed in the dishwasher!

Marabu-Porcelain Painter (Pens with fibre tip nibs).

A high-gloss porcelain pen, water-based, fibre tip nib, for school, hobby, leisure use.
The Marabu-Porcelain Painter is dishwasher-safe after baking in the oven (30 mins. at 170°C). Follow instructions for baking. The Marabu-Porcelain Painter is ideal for writing and painting on porcelain, glass, metal and light glazed ceramic.
Marabu-Porcelain Painter is available in two tip widths, 1mm and colours in 1-2mm, and can be used in perfect combination with Marabu-Ceramica (for further information see Tips & Ideas or the Marabu-Porcelain Painter leaflet). For fine black outlines, Marabu-Glass Painter is available separately in a tip width of 1mm.

Use of the valve system:
Before use, shake the painter well with the cap closed. Press onto the tip repeatedly until the ink is visible in it (do not continue once the ink appears in the tip as this may overload it). Try using the painter on a piece of scrap paper first (not on the object to be painted until you are sure the flow is smooth).
Please make sure that the object to be painted is thoroughly cleaned before writing or painting, with Marabu-Cleaner & Thinner or White Spirit.
After use, close the cap well (until it clicks).
Store in a horizontal position!

Baking and fixing:
To achieve a permanent, dishwasher-safe finish:
Allow the painted objects to dry for approx.
4 hours and put them into an unheated oven. Set the temperature for 170°C and bake for approx. 30 mins. Turn off the heat, allow the items to cool down in the closed oven. Do not remove until the item has cooled down.

Marabu for Glass.

Marabu-Decorglas – 15ml and 50 ml pots.

Water based, transparent glass painting colour for school, hobby and leisure purposes. Ideally suited for painting on glass, acrylic sheet, plastic and metal film, mirrors and many other items such as ceramic, self-curing modelling pastes, paper, board, wood. Marabu-Decorglas is excellent for use on wood, allowing the attractive grain to show through the glaze. The intense, bright shades offer very good fading resistance, good dispersion, intermixability and can be thinned with water. The ready-to-use transparent paint can be lightened with Marabu-Decorglas clear paint. On application and during the 30–40 min drying time, Marabu-Decorglas appears milky. After this the glass painting colour becomes glossy transparent – only black and white remain opaque. Marabu-Decorglas is wipe-proof and weatherproof but NOT dishwasher-safe.

The intense, bright colour shades have a good flow, are exceptionally fading-resistant and intermixable. Marabu-GlasArt is touch-dry after about an hour. Black and white are opaque.
